Our client Trish has an inspiring story that many others can relate to.


1. When and Why did you first start coming to Coastal Strength & Fitness?

I was ready for a life change.

I had entered my 50’s and was unhappy in my body and the lack of peace I was experiencing because of it.

I joined Coastal on 10/21/2016 after God blessed me by seeing a friend’s check-in at Coastal on Facebook.

This prompted me to checkout their web site and I was immediately drawn to it, yet reluctant at the same time. I had tried numerous gyms and workouts during my adult years and never felt comfortable or like I belonged.

I’ve also had a weight struggle throughout my adult years, trying various diets and programs including Weight Watchers. I had achieved Lifetime membership with WW after losing 74 pounds, but regained it a year or so later. I went on to do WW two more times after that, losing 50 pounds each time, but couldn’t maintain the weight loss because I had manipulated points to continue eating less healthy foods rather than making a realistic lifestyle change that could be maintained long term.

2. What fitness activities/sports were you doing before you joined Coastal?

I’ve never been athletic. My activities revolved around losing weight. I only did cardio such as aerobics, step up and other exercise dvds, walking, and the exercise classes offered by whatever gym I happened to belong to at the time.

3. What results have you seen since you joined Coastal Strength & Fitness?

I’ve lost 51 pounds, 30 inches, and 3 pants sizes since joining Coastal.

When I started this journey, I was only interested in numbers (clothes size and weight), but I ended up gaining something so much more valuable than that.

Quality of life!

I’ve gained confidence, self-esteem and, something I never thought I’d have... self-love.

The effects of this weight loss and program have transformed my body, my mind and therefore my life.

I handle stress and my health conditions (anxiety/depression and fibromyalgia) so much better and have less episodes of them and as a result I experience much more joy in my life.

4. What do you like most about Coastal Strength & Fitness?

I love that instead of Coastal members being judgmental of others, they are supportive and encouraging. It truly is like one big gym family where everyone helps each other, has fun together and makes gains together.

Coastal has knowledgeable, caring and empathetic coaches who work with you at your fitness level and help you grow. They monitor your form and make sure you are doing the workouts correctly to avoid injury and to maximize their benefits. The coaches have everything planned and set up each day. All I have to do is show up and do the work; all the “guess work” and uncertainty is removed.

5. What is your favorite Coastal training day of the week and why?

I love arm and leg days! I never did strength training prior to coming to Coastal other than the occasional random machines or extremely light dumb bells. It didn’t appeal to me because I didn’t know what I was doing or how to do it correctly. Now I love it! I’m seeing my body do things I never thought it could. I’ve come to love the process of transforming my body into its healthiest, strongest version.

1. What is your Spirit animal?

I would like to think the bear.

  • The primary meaning of the bear spirit animal is strength and confidence

  • The spirit of the bear indicates it’s time for healing or using healing abilities to help self or others

  • The bear medicine emphasizes the importance of solitude, quiet time, rest

2. If you were a Superhero, what would your super power be?

Determination. Once I make up my mind to accomplish something, I put forth every effort to consistently do whatever it takes to meet my goal.

3. What is your favorite cheat meal?

Had you asked me this question prior to coming to Coastal, I would have easily named a “cheat” meal.

But, my relationship with food has totally changed through your partnership with Precision Nutrition. I no longer have a legalistic view pertaining to food.

There are no good foods and bad foods. There are healthier options and I try to select those foods 80% of the time. If there is a special occasion or I just really want to eat something less healthy; I eat it slowly, consciously and thoroughly enjoy it rather than feel guilty about it like I used to. I no longer have to “cheat” which used to send me into binge frenzies.
