1. When and Why did you first start coming to Coastal Strength & Fitness?
I started at Coastal a year ago in Oct 2017. I had always told myself I was too busy with work and family to be able to join a gym. My wife convinced me that my health and my happiness were worth making the time. I kept seeing ads in my Facebook feed for Coastal. What caught my eye was that they relied on actual clients, not stock images for their ads. I scheduled a consult with Ben. Hearing and feeling his excitement and seeing the 5:30 class work out together closed the deal for me.
2. What fitness activities/sports were you doing before you joined Coastal?
I got into enjoying running half marathons, but always seemed to get into it because I'd go through a period of weight gain and decide I needed to run the weight off. Then after awhile, I'd stop, gain the weight back, and start the cycle again. My weight loss was made up of caloric restriction with massive amounts of cardio back then, but I'd always gain back more weight than I'd lost once I'd quit.
3. What results have you seen since you joined Coastal Strength & Fitness?
Since joining, I've lost around 26 lbs. I've dropped two pant sizes and have gone from a wardrobe full of XLs to one that has a few mediums sprinkled in there. I am still on my journey but I'm learning much better eating habits. I don't feel the need to snack like I did before and am getting in the habit of meal prepping at the beginning of the week so there's not that many chances to feel the need to make an unhealthy "easy" choice. When I do make unhealthy decisions now, I try to make them mindfully and enjoy the decision and the situation.
4. What do you like most about Coastal Strength & Fitness?
There are so many things to like about Coastal. The class times, the structure, then energy, the fact that no matter your fitness level, the coaches will make sure the workout works for you, etc... But if I had to pick one thing, I'd say the community. From the owner to the coaches to the other members, everyone is concerned with each other's well being. There is constant encouragement, fun and fellowship. Even an introvert like myself quickly felt involved.
5. What is your favorite Coastal training day of the week and why?
I love the push from the competitiveness of Tuesdays, but I'd have to say that I like Wednesdays the best. I've never had a lot of upper body strength, so getting to focus on those muscles and see gains there feels great.
