Coastal Crew Spotlight: Teresa Crowson

Many of our members have overcome some incredible obstacles on the way to health and hotness.

We believe our members are the heartbeat of our great community and provide amazing inspiration to others overcoming their own challenges.

MEET TERESA:

1. When and Why did you first start coming to Coastal Strength & Fitness?

I started at Coastal on March 31, 2015... so, about 10 months ago.

About 7 months before joining, my father suffered a major heart attack, during which he died twice and had to be revived and ended up with his second bypass surgery. This was not his first heart attack - his first heart attack was at 44 years old... I am 43. It hit me like a ton of bricks - realizing that I could be headed down that same path.

I HAD to do something!

I tried to do it on my own for a few months, but knew I needed help. Coastal is near my house and I frequently saw people of all ages and sizes running or carrying weights down the sidewalk, coming out of a storefront that said "JAZZERSIZE" and I kept thinking I should check it out, but I was full of self doubt and couldn't bring myself to take that step.

In March, someone from my church posted about Coastal on Facebook and I took it as my sign... I joined a few days later!

2. What fitness activities/sports were you doing before you joined Coastal?

The last time I was involved in sports was in college. Before Coastal, I tried walking, jogging, and weight machines at a gym on my own.

3. What results have you seen since you joined Coastal Strength & Fitness?

I have lost over 40 pounds and 4 pants sizes, but I am most excited about my other changes.

On my first day, I could not jump up 2 inches off the floor with both feet leaving the ground, could not do one full squat, could not do a lunge without holding on to the wall, and could not run 50 feet down the sidewalk without stopping...

...I can now do weighted squats and squat jumps, jump up onto a box that is knee height, do walking lunges, run down the sidewalk multiple times, and run sprints at the end of the class!

I have multiple sclerosis and, since starting at Coastal, I have less MS related fatigue, less severe and less frequent symptoms, and improved coordination. My cholesterol levels are down and my BMI is in the normal range!

Self-doubt has been thrown out the window!

4. What do you like most about Coastal Strength & Fitness?

The positive support from the trainers and the members... one member's newly achieved 120 pound deadlift is just as celebrated as another member's newly achieved 320 pound deadlift!

5. What is your favorite Coastal training day of the week and why?

Mondays and Leg Days... Leg day is where I've seen the most concrete improvement in my coordination and strength and Mondays start my week off in a healthy mindset.

Lightening Round Questions:

1. What is your Spirit animal?

Butterfly - I'm in the middle of a metamorphosis!

2. If you were a Superhero, what would your super power be?

Reading people's minds

3. What is your favorite cheat meal?

Any meal that includes rolls, biscuits, or other bread!

Are you ready to begin your journey to a healthy, sustainable lifestyle?
